Management Team

Mr. Carson Wen, BBS, JP - Chairman , Bank of Asia (BVI) Limited

Mr. Carson Wen has a distinguished career in law, business and politics.  He has practiced law for 30 years at his own Hong Kong partnership and subsequently as partner at two international law firms. Mr. Wen has been named as a leading adviser on Chinese law, mergers & acquisitions and capital markets work in Who's Who of the Law, Asia Pacific Legal 500, AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers, Chambers Asia and China's Top 200. He is also named in the International Who's Who and Who's Who of the World.

Mr. Wen is the Chairman of Bank of Asia, which is licensed in the British Virgin Islands and regulated by the BVI Financial Services Commission. It provides banking and wealth management services using cutting edge fintech.

Mr. Wen was a three-term Deputy to the National People's Congress of China, which is the PRC's national legislature and constitutionally the highest organ of state power, representing Hong Kong. He is also a Justice of the Peace of Hong Kong and held various public service appointments in Mainland China and Hong Kong. He was the Vice-Chairman and currently Party Affairs Advisor of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong ("DAB"), the largest political party in Hong Kong. He was also Guest Professor of the Law School of Zhonghan University (also known as Sun Yat-Sen University), which is the leading university in Southern China.

Mr. Wen is a member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and Chairman of its Task Force on Green Businesses. He is also a Director of the Pacific Basin Economic Council.

Mr. Wen was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for his contribution to economic ties between Hong Kong, Mainland China and the rest of the world.

Mr. Wen obtained his B.A. from Columbia University, where he majored in economics, and B.A. and M.A. from Oxford University, where he studied law. He was Younger Prizeman at Balliol College, Oxford.

 

Mr. Yu Jianmeng – Director


Mr. Yu Jianmeng has a long career in the Chinese Government as well as in the corporate sector, and has extensive personal connections and commercial relationships in China. He was a senior official at the Communist Youth League in Shanghai and later at the New China News Agency.  He was President of Xinhua News Agency East Shanghai Development Co. Ltd., and later President and Executive Director of Shanghai Information Technology Investment Development Co., Ltd., jointly owned by the People's Government of Shanghai and the Metallurgical Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was subsequently the President for China of Star Cruise, the third largest cruise operator in the world. He also sits on the board of various companies listed in Hong Kong and Canada.

Mr. Yu is the CEO and Director of Shanghai Shenghe New Energy Technology Company Limited, which uses the Kalina Cycle technology and Enhanced Rankine Cycle technology to convert heat into electricity.

Mr. Yu holds a Master Degree in Economics from East China Normal University in a joint program with the University of Hawaii. The Xinhua News Agency accredited him the title of Senior Economist

 

Ms. Fung Yuet Shan, Julia – Director


Ms. Julia Fung's career has spanned media, journalism, publishing, business and mediation. She began her career with Radio Television Hong Kong with on-screen and off-screen roles. She was Managing Editor of Asian Architect and Builder and later Publisher of the architecture and design magazine Vision that she co-founded with Tao Ho, David Lung and Saresh Sharma. She subsequently re-joined government and served as Senior Information Officer of the Government Information Service of Hong Kong for a number of years in its Overseas Public Relations Service and was later Director of Executive Programs of the University of Hong Kong Business School.

Ms. Fung is co-owner and Director of Galerie La Vong, which specializes in contemporary Vietnamese paintings, and has written seven books on the subject. She is also a published poet with a weekly poetry column for four and a half years and three published collections entitled "Much Ado About Nothing", "When Victoria Harbour Lost Her Fishing Junks" and “Echoes of the Heart”.  Seven of her poems are included in English textbooks for Hong Kong high schools.

Ms. Fung is also an Accredited Family Mediator of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Hong Kong Mediation Centre and is currently Director of the Sancus Mediation Centre, and in that capacity has handled mediation involving leading Hong Kong families.

Ms. Fung holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong.

 

 

Ms. Barbara Meynert – Senior Adviser

In an outstanding multifaceted career, Ms. Barbara Meynert has been an investment banker, regulator, business leader, philanthropist and entrepreneur. She is a Director of the Victor and William Fung Foundation and of the Fung Global Institute, a Senior Advisor to the Fung (1937) Group, and a member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). 

Among her many roles in her long business career, she was the Managing Director of the real estate arm of the Li & Fung Group and responsible for the planning, leadership, execution and management of two large developments in the Pearl River Delta in the Pearl River Delta, reporting directly to the then Li & Fung Chairman Dr. Victor Fung.

She has served on the board and committee of a number of not-for-profit organisations including the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and the World Economic Forum. She is also Founder and Chairman of Hong Kong-based Sage Vita Limited (www.sagevita.com), which advocates an approach on how to live longer and live well, a subject on which Ms. Meynert has written and spoken widely.

As a business leader, she played a crucial role as a director and advisor in the establishment of both the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. Before that, she served in executive roles in the international investment banking industry. She was Managing Director of Barclays Investment Bank BZW in Hong Kong and Asia following her position as Chief Executive of Kredietbank Luxembourg’s Asia-Pacific operations.

She holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics from the University of Hong Kong.

 

Mr. Philip Leung – Director


Mr. Philip Leung is an executive and entrepreneur in information technology and international market entry. He is experienced in building technology businesses across geographic regions, particularly US companies entering the China market and vice versa. He previously served in executive positions at Compaq Computer (Managing Director, East Asia), Silicon Graphics (President, APAC), Chinese Books Cyberstore (CEO), Vtech (CEO, USA), AMD (Founding Manager, Taiwan), Commence Technology Partners (Managing Partner), and Fenox Venture Capital (Venture Partner). He was a Governor at The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong where he was founding Chair of China Affairs Group, and Chair of the IT Committee. He created a highly successful annual China Conference there for an international business audience, as well as a China Business Briefing Program serving Mainland Chinese companies expanding globally. In 2013, he was appointed President of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, where he created very high-quality Signature events, developed an active advocacy program, engaged various organizations as partners, and was widely recognized for bringing the Chamber to new heights of achievement.

As Founding President of the Pearl River Delta Chapter of AAMA, Silicon Valley’s largest non-profit organization for the Asian-American high-tech community, Mr. Leung launched the PRD chapter in Hong Kong (2011) and Shenzhen (2013). He is a frequent speaker and thought leader on driving social and economic progress in PRD through innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. He was an Adjunct Professor in City University of HK, and teaches occasionally in HKU and HK Polytechnic University. He holds an MBA from Harvard University, and a BS (Engineering) from Hong Kong University. He has worked in various cities in Asia and the US, including 12 years in Silicon Valley.

 

Ms. Judy Ngan - Adviser

Ms. Judy Ngan is a veteran PRC lawyer who has been in practice for over 25 years and was also formerly a judge. She was among the first batch of Chinese youth who went to university through open examination after the Cultural Revolution, and obtained her education in law and in economics from the Zhongshan University in Guangzhou and also the Party School of Guangdong Province. She has practiced at law firms in Guangzhou and Hong Kong including Nanfang Law Firm, Siao, Wen and Leung, Heller Ehrman and Jones Day. She has authored a number of practice manuals on various PRC law aspects and is also a frequent speaker on PRC law issues.  She is a committee member of the Federation of Women Lawyers in Hong Kong

 

Ms. Isabella Chan – Associate Director and Vice President (Operations)

Ms. Isabella Chan is qualified as a Legal Executive. She has extensive experience in administration, marketing and deal execution functions in the legal, hospitality and industrial sectors and has acted as Deputy General Manager of a Hong Kong-listed new energy company.

Prior to joining Sancus, Ms. Chan worked for various international and Hong Kong law firms including Baker & McKenzie, Siao, Wen and Leung, Heller Ehrman and Jones Day.
  

 

Mr. Thomas Chua – Vice President (Finance)

Mr. Thomas Chua has wide experience in the valuation and financial advisory function, particularly in relation to Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.  His expertise covers the valuation of various classes of tangible and intangible assets, such as trademarks, customer relationships/contracts, technology, proprietary know-how, franchise agreements, mining reserves, backlog and non-compete agreements. He is also one of the leading authorities in South East Asia in valuing various classes of equity, options and debt for tax, financial reporting, restructuring, mergers & acquisitions and financing purposes for companies across varied industries.

He is a Director of AVA Associates Limited.  He was previously a Senior Director at Kroll Inc, one of the world’s leading risk consulting company and an operating unit of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., the global professional services firm.

Prior to joining Kroll Inc, Mr. Chua was an Associate Director of Hong Kong-based business advisory and consulting firm, Jones Lang LaSalle Sallmanns, where he spearheaded the Singapore operations.

 

Mr. Eetu Kuneinen - Vice President (Marketing and Strategy)

Mr. Eetu Kuneinen comes with strong sales and marketing background. He has years of experience in formulating and implementing sales and marketing strategies for companies in Asian region (JH-Premium, Testure Asia, Sage Vita). Prior to that he worked in various marketing and sales roles in multinational companies (Agoda, Nokia, Apex Plastics).

 

In the past years he has been involved with online environment and successfully used it as a global distribution channel for various products and services. He has consulted a number of businesses in search engine marketing sector with a proven track record (TeePeeGames.com, Metaflow.com, Appgravity.com).

 

He has strong project management experience, he recently co-founded a 3D printing related news website (3dprintingindustry.com) and a global travel information website (nemoguides.com).

Eetu holds an MBA from Bangkok University (Thailand) and a BBA from Haaga Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) with Major in Marketing.

 

Mr. John Young – Vice President (Legal, HK)

Mr. John Young obtained his B.A from the University of Hong Kong majoring in Geography and Geology. He worked for the Hong Kong Government for a number of years before studying law. He obtained his LL.B from the University of London and LL.M (Chinese and Comparative Laws) from the City University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Young was admitted as a Solicitor in the High Court of the Hong Kong SAR in 1998. He practices law in a variety of fields with emphasis on civil and commercial dispute resolutions. Before joining Sancus, Mr. Young was a partner of Siao, Wen and Leung and is currently a partner of Chan and Young.

 

Ms. Connie Zhong – Vice President (Legal, PRC)

Ms. Connie Zhong graduated from Zhongshan University with an LL.B. and an LL.M. Ms. Zhong worked for a number of law firms in the United States, Hong Kong and Mainland China, including Shelden & Mak, Siao, Wen and Leung,  Heller Ehrman and Li & Partners.

Ms. Zhong has extensive experience in handling PRC-related cross-border transactions, focusing on a wide range of commercial matters with particular emphasis on the structuring of foreign-invested enterprises, mergers and acquisitions, and listings.

Ms. Zhong is a frequent speaker on PRC foreign investment laws and regulations, including seminars organized under the Continuing Professional Development program of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
